WOW! I never thought that I would see the day that I lost a hundred pounds. I began my journey almost a year ago. Before I started I was tired all the time, and short of breath just walking a short distance. I had no self confidence and my self-esteem was very low. I can actually say that I hated myself. My weight was making me sick. I was on medication for high blood pressure, and was a border line diabetic. I knew if I didn’t change my lifestyle I would probably die. Now that has changed. I’m off all medication!! I now have confidence in myself, and believe that I can do things if I just work for it. I can say that I am beginning to love me!!
When I started GET FIT I wore a size 24 and my BMI was off the charts. Now I can wear a size 14 , and my BMI is 28, in the recommended range. I can actually say that I love shopping for clothes!
I have several proudest moments this past year. I will only mention a few: I know this might sound silly to some people, but getting off of the floor without grabbing onto things was a chore for me. Well, as of today, I can get off of the floor without any help. Also, I signed up for GET FIT’s summer boot camp, and on my first day I thought to myself, “I’m CRAZY for thinking I can do this.” I did complete boot camp, and when I did the boot camp Olympics I found out I did my personal best in running around the block. WOW…that felt wonderful not only physically, but also mentally. I can say my proudest moment has to be when I stepped on the scales and saw that I met my goal of one hundred pounds lost. I’m a person that usually doesn’t cry especially in front of anyone. That day I did cry; I was so happy!
I have set new goals for the next year. I want to run a 5k without stopping. I also want to lose twenty-five more pounds, maintain my weight, tone up, and be able to do the full three months of summer boot camp. Most of all I want to reach out to other people who are struggling with their weight to let them know that they are not alone.
Joining GET FIT was the best decision that I’ve ever made. I could never have made it through this journey alone. I had so much motivation, and was pushed to believe in myself by so many people. One group of people was my sisters, and my parents who supported me all the way. I would also like to thank the GET FIT staff for helping me reach my goals. All the staff are great, positive people, who are willing to help out any way they can. My trainer, Lorie was influential in my success. She had so much belief in me, and never gave up on me. She motivated me at every workout, and when I felt like quitting she would push just a little harder. THANK YOU LORIE!! I’m not sure where I would be today if I hadn’t found GET FIT!!

I would like to thank Lorie & Jeff and the staff at GET FIT. I had been on a plateau with my weight and exercising. Lorie suggested I try their Boot Camp. I went in with the attitude of “I’m not sure I can do this” and now have an “I CAN do this!” attitude.
The facility is clean and professional and very welcoming. I like the required food journal that actually gets reviewed with nutritional “suggestions” marked in it. I love the variety of the classes. Each one has been a different workout. Lorie can push and motivate you to give it your best. Just in the three weeks of Boot Camp I feel leaner and stronger and my confidence in myself has improved. It’s great to want to workout and feel good about doing something good for yourself. I look forward to the August Boot Camp and also taking advantage of their personal training in the future.

I started personal training at GET FIT with Jeff and the team in March 2010. Since then I have been able to lose close to 70 pounds. I can’t believe the incredible results that I have received from going in just a couple times a week. Jeff and James have always worked me hard while I was in for a session but I have never been super sore the next day. I think this shows their high skill level to give you a good workout but still allow you to go thru your day normally. After 8 months of working out at GET FIT I ran my first 5k and now have my sights set on a 1/2 marathon in March. With the help of Jeff and the crew I’m sure I will be ready. I have and will continue to tell everyone I know that they need to go see the staff at GET FIT. At this time of Thanksgiving I have to thank the entire staff of GET FIT for giving me the gift of fitness, now I can truly enjoy all of my other blessings this Holiday season as never before.

I have to admit I was a little skeptical about a class entitled “Boot Camp”. I envisioned a lot of yelling and not the most nurturing environment. These were my thoughts exactly one year ago when I decided to join boot camp. I had been far away from a fitness lifestyle for a long time. So going into boot camp I really wasn’t sure of my strength and abilities. Lorie has been awesome! She pushed me harder than I would have ever pushed myself while working out alone. After my first month of boot camp last July, I more than doubled my strength, lost a total of 5 ½ inches, and lost 10 lbs.
My husband and three children are amazed at the progress I have made over the past year. My children used to say to me “mom, please play with us”. I didn’t have the energy! Now that I have made this lifestyle change, they have a hard time keeping up ! The amount of energy I have now is amazing and I owe that to Lorie for pushing me and encouraging me to get into “my zone”, (it really works)! I can recall a recent morning at boot camp where we did sprints on the bike trail. I pushed through and gave it my all. As we approached the end of the bike trail, myself and fellow boot campers were so relieved, until we heard “we aren’t finished yet, everyone give me push ups”! I thought to myself “What?!? I can’t believe I am paying someone to put me through this”! And yes, when we were finished with the push ups we had the joy of running back to Get Fit. After we finished with our cool down, I felt so energized after all that hard work. This feeling is what helps me get out of bed at 5am three times a week
I have continued to make a lifestyle change over the last year. I am eating healthier, sleeping better and exercising regularly. Boot Camp has been the challenge, the push and the change I needed. Thanks for everything!!!

“Boot camp has been worth all the effort and dedication. Exercise has
never been something I’ve enjoyed doing and after taking at least a
year break from doing any regular workout, I felt it was time to get
back in the swing of things. I am now bursting with more energy than
I’ve had in a long time and am proud of the hard work I’ve put in. I
feel healthy and strong and I know what I’m doing is the best thing
for my heart and body. I believe Lorie’s commitment to her clients is
key to putting us in the best shape we can be and this includes our
health as well as our appearance. The workouts are rewarding no matter
what level you are and the support I feel from others in the bootcamp
or in the Ultimate workouts pushes me to a dedication to exercise I’d
never thought I would have.”

My Boot Camp Experience
I knew I needed a kick-start. A push. I had been gaining weight for the better part of three years. I figured Booth Camp might help. I figured right.
Of course, the very first day when we’re deep on the bike trail my only thought is “How am I going to get out of here?” I sincerely regretted my decision to join Boot Camp. I wondered if I could get my money back. I wondered if Jeff & Lorie would consider me a quitter. Then I realized I’d already been a quitter on myself - for the last three years. My stubborn streak kicked in.
It took two weeks before I no longer thought I might pull a Fred Sanford and go down clutching my hand to my chest telling anyone within earshot - this is the big one! I watched the sweat from my forehead drop onto the pavement and wondered if anyone else was having this problem. Surely not the cute, tiny little gal who wore her shorts so short the two times I was behind her exercising I could tell if she got a Brazilian for her honeymoon. Nor the other young woman who was standing there in a Class of 2005 t-shirt one day and after I got done adding and subtracting realized she was HALF my age!
The last two weeks were better, except for the attack of the killer asparagus that wreaked havoc on my body for two days, acting like a full-body colonic. I could feel my body getting stronger. Less sweat droplets, more energy. Little snippets of the Six Million Dollar Man TV show opener ran through my head during the last couple of Boot Camp sessions - We can rebuild him, make him better than he was before. That was exactly what I was doing - making myself better than I was before. When all was said and done I had lost eight pounds!

I can’t wait for next summer’s boot camp….I’m going to sign up for every month it is available. Boot camp has made a huge difference for me…..thanks for everything you have done to get me where I am with fitness and weight loss. I couldn’t have done it without you and Get Fit. - Kelly S., Class of 09
I never thought I could consistently wake up this early AND enjoy working out that early. Who knew! By the way, I went shopping over the weekend and bought my first pair of size 8 pants since about my freshman year of high school. Thanks! -Jessica A.,Class of 09
I enjoy the “exercise high” and my work day goes so much better! It is great to have a positive accomplishment 1st thing in the morning!! Eileen B., Class of 08 & 09
YOU ARE A BLESSING!!!!!!!!! Many thanks for doing this early, early morning stuff. It makes the world of difference in my day. Not only have people noticed the change in my weight/tone of my body, but my attitude is so much better - I don’t get stressed out like before. Barb S., Class of 08
I got the best results from Boot Camp. It’s the most challenging thing I’ve ever done and I feel a sense of accomplishment after every class. -Lisa H., Class of 09
This morning during boot camp, Lorie, in her encouraging voice, shouted the statement “You’re not a ballerina, you are an Athlete!” Me? An Athlete? Thanks to boot camp, I do feel more like an athlete.
Boot camp has been so many things to me. I have lost inches, pounds and body fat, but I have gained so much more! I have gained both physical and mental strength. I have learned that my body is capable of doing things I didn’t think it could. I have gained determination. Hearing the encouragement to do just one more this time has given me the courage to grow in my abilities. Each time I hear “great job” or “I can see positive changes”, I want to try harder. And I have gained self-esteem. I feel better physically and mentally each time I go to boot camp. Of course, it always feels good when you hear that you look good and especially when you hear, and believe, that you are an athlete.
Thanks Lorie!!

Stronger…check. Leaner…yep.
More energy…you bet. Healthier…absolutely! Since starting Boot Camp in 2009 my health and attitude has changed so much. I used to have that same mentality that so many people have. Dreaded working out, always claimed that I ate healthy, and everything stressed me out. Then Lorie suggested I give Boot Camp a shot. The thought of waking up before 5:30am made me cringe, let alone waking up that early to work out, and I figured I was merely setting myself up for failure. Well…that was over a year ago…
Today I couldn’t imagine going back to that old lifestyle. Boot Camp has made me stronger physically and mentally. I have more energy (yes, even despite getting less sleep!). Lorie is always there to give advice or help with our eating habits. I never get bored with the variety that Boot Camp provides. Because of all that, I’m the healthiest I have ever been. And today, at six months pregnant and still doing 5:30am Boot Camp, it has made for a smooth and fit pregnancy! Thank you Boot Camp!

I started boot camp in June to attempt to get ready for my son’s upcoming wedding. I don’t want to embarrass my family with the way I look. I was weighing more than I ever have! My son has been to Afghanistan and Iraq, I told myself if he could endure that I can endure this. With Lorie’s help I am now in my second month and loving every aching muscle I have! No pain no gain! Mind over matter!!! I am now “getting fit” for myself! My clothes are fitting better, I have more energy, It has been an overall great experience for me. Lorie, I thank you with everything I have!
Sincerely,

I had torn my PCL in my right knee last year during softball season after getting back from Kuwait with the Navy. I was so out of shape I was in danger of getting kicked out of the Navy. I got my final warning from the Navy to lose weight or get out. The weekend before while sitting on the couch, watching some TV and I am sure eating something really bad for me (like pizza, my favorite) there was a commercial break with GET FIT Wilmington. This commercial had normal looking people in it, you know the kind like me, a little bit over weight and exercising. I told my wife we should go check it out. Well after the Navy’s warning, Monday May 5th, 2009, I went to GET FIT and checked it out.
I took my wife back to GET FIT that night and took her the tour and we joined on the spot.
I had also inquired about personal training because of the amount of weight I needed to lose or percentage of body fat. Jeff talked to me about it and we set-up or first appointment for that Friday, May 8th, 2009. Between Monday and Friday I went there at least once a day for about 30 minutes of cardio and before Thursday most of the staff knew me by name and what my situation was. Wow, a place that cares, that has a personal relationship with its members, that totally blew me out of the water.
I went on Tuesday night to my first Spin class and after the class I started talking to James. James and I had never seen each other before, but he knew who I was and knew what my goal was.
I showed up that Friday for my personal training assessment with Jeff, the results were bad I weighed in at 234 pounds at 5’91/2” tall at was carrying 31% body fat. I had to be at 191 pounds or 22% body fat before June 13th. Yes, that is right, I needed to be there in just 5 weeks, that is 43 pounds or 9% body fat. I promised my wife I would do everything I could and this meant being at GET FIT every day they were opened. I scheduled my personal training for 2 days a week and Jeff gave me direction on how to eat better. I was there 6 days a week at least once a day, every member of the staff knew me and my wife and were always encouraging us.
They always made sure to ask me what I had to eat the day before. Well, weigh in day came for the Navy at I did not make the 191 or 22% body fat, but I did make 201, 35 pounds in 5 weeks lost and was only 1% away from the body fat, 47” waist to 38” in 5 weeks. I went from a size 42” waist to a size 34”. I had increased my core strength, before my maximum sit-ups in 2 minutes was 50 now it’s 78 and my push-up maximum was 45 now I complete 70. The Navy did see how far I had come and gave me the recommendation for retention.
I could not have done this without GET FIT, not just the fitness facility (don’t call it a gym) but it’s entire staff. If you listen, change your eating habits and most of all apply yourself you can get fit at GET FIT. I have recommended GET FIT to everyone that I talk to because I love the new me and so does my wife. To Date: Jake has lost a total of 44 lbs. and has reached his goal of 191 lbs.

Why do I love the Ultimate Workout at Get Fit?
I not only feel young, fit and healthy but I’m able to keep up with young, fit, healthy people.
On my recent trip to Hawaii my daughter wanted to learn to surf. Thanks to Leva’s workouts I didn’t have to think twice. There I was, 51, surfing for the first time ever! All my “classmates” were in their 20’s and early 30’s. It WAS NOT easy, lots of arm strength was needed paddling far off the shore to “catch” the good waves. Getting up required a lot of strength and balance too. I did it - 6 nice, long rides! The others commented how cool it was that my daughter and I could learn to surf together, they wondered if their moms could. It was such a rewarding experience, it was a BLAST!
Update on May 20, 2009
A testimony to Boot Camp. When I started Get Fit I was on blood pressure meds. After working out for awhile I was able to drop to just a diuretic. After the cleanse, I dropped that and kept my blood pressure 130/70. After boot camp for 3 weeks it is now 120/70, Yea!
Thank you Lorie,

I’ve been working out at Get Fit since August of 2006. I started personal training with Lorie and in November of 2006 began the Ulitmate Workout. Since then I added Spinning classes 3-4 times a week. A year and a half later I’ve lost over 25lbs, 20 inches and 8% body fat. I feel better, I have more energy, and I’m wearing smaller size jeans than ever!
Jeff & Lorie and the rest of the instructors at Get Fit are very motivating and encouraging. I’ve met so many new people that have the same fitness goals that it makes working out at Get Fit fun.
I love working out at Get Fit!

Lorie and Jeff,
Attached is a picture taken in FL over spring break of my two daughters and two grandaughters. Melanie, Melinda, and Brianna are also members at GET FIT. My goal was to be able to keep up with them and not hold them back. I DID IT. But only because I have been working out at your facility. Had I not, I know I wouldn’t have been able to keep up with them. My grandaughters cannot come back and say their 65 year old gramma held them back!
Thanks so much for offering your facility to our community. You and your staff are so professional and friendly. It is a joy to come up and work on making myself healthier (and David is enjoying it also).

I just had my one year anniversary [as a GET FIT member] and I’ve gone from a size 12 to a size 6, gained strength that I’ve never had, and a cardiovascular health that bodes well for future longevity. Don’t think you’re beyond starting a program like this; I’m almost 64 and I feel so much better than I did a year ago! It’s one of the best decisions I ever made.
